1) What is your job role, and where are you working?
[I’m a] Producer on an MMORPG, [living in] California, USA.
2) What does your job entail? What is a typical work day for you in your producer role?
As a producer, I make sure the game is healthy with weekly updates, maintenance etc. There are a lot of daily meetings with external and internal teams to ensure the game is running well and all the updates are moving in on time. If there are roadblocks, I am responsible for resolving them. My role is very similar to a project manager at a non-video game company. Sometimes I like to compare my role with herding sheep (lol).

3) Are there enough women working in the games industry? Do you think it has improved over time?
I don’t think there are currently enough women in the games industry because a lot of girls are discouraged at a young age to pursue tech, engineering, etc. At my company, though it is small, I am the only female producer. The video games industry also sometimes prevents women from pursuing leadership roles but I believe that is currently changing as more women speak up about the gender gap.
4) What advice do you have for any other women or girls who want to get into the video game industry?
Always stand up for what you believe in and never give up pursuing what you want in life. I know this sounds super cheesy and redundant, but as long as we speak up and keep working hard, I believe all our dreams are achievable. There are also women in gaming/tech support groups out there to join and if you are just starting out, it can be a good way to meet people in the industry and get your foot in the door!
With more and more women and girls getting into gaming, the next step is for more girls to get into the gaming industry; whether that be producing, developing, designing, whatever it may be!
