Miis, the Soulless Army and Tama Town: March 27th’s Nintendo Direct

March 27th’s Nintendo Direct definitely didn’t disappoint! Here are some games I have my eye on for the coming year for the original Nintendo Switch.

Moments away from the event unveiling the brand new Switch 2 feels like an unusual time to discuss its predecessor, but the recent Nintendo Direct saw many highly anticipated games that will grace consoles within the coming year. This Direct didn’t disappoint; it seems like there’s something for everyone! I want to take a closer look at some of the games that particularly piqued my interest. I’ll definitely be picking these up!

I love the aesthetic of this game! i can’t wait to play it and cast some spells. Source: Chucklefish

Witchbrook

I love a cosy game, but I’ve not played an awful lot of them. Watching the trailer for Witchbrook, which promises learning spells at magic school while growing your witch business, made me very excited. I want to feel like I’m in the world of Kiki’s Delivery Service! I can’t wait to fly over towns on my broom. The music and design of the game is super charming too! This game will definitely be on my to-play list when it launches in winter this year.

Tamagotchi Plaza

There’s no words to describe how excited I was about Tamagotchi Plaza. For context, growing up in the early 2000s meant I was keeping multiple Tamagotchi virtual pets alive at the same time. I loved them so much, that when I was gifted a coral pink Nintendo DS Lite for my 8th birthday, the first game it ran was the original Tamagotchi Corner Shop. To this day, I still get the Tamagotchi song from the concert hall stuck in my head on loop. I’ve not played Corner Shop since the second instalment, which released in 2006, but that ends on June 27th!

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake

Nobody is surprised that I’m putting the latest Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes on this list. As a huge DQ fan, it was great to get an update on these games. I will admit, I’ve not gotten around to playing Dragon Quest III’s HD-2D Remake, but I may wait until the trilogy is out so I can play them together! They’re coming at some point this year, so not long left to wait.

My curiosity has been piqued by Raidou Remastered; I’m going to have to get it! Source: Atlus

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
I was 6 years old when the original Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army released on the PS2 in 2006, and I’ve been intrigued by his character since his feature in the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne remaster back in 2021. I didn’t realise that Dante from Devil May Cry was DLC in this version, so I ended up battling it out with Raidou and not really fully understanding the excitement from Atlus fans. I’d love to play this remaster on Switch and learn all about him, and maybe revisit Nocturne so I can fully appreciate it! I also love the challenge in older Atlus titles; I’m ready for a new RPG to sink my teeth into. I’ll be picking this up on July 19th.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Now is a good time to admit that I never owned a 3DS back in the day; I had a perfectly functional DSi and new consoles were expensive for a 13 year old. Once I got into PlayStation gaming with the PS4 I bought from my first job, I left the DS, and Nintendo, behind for a long time. What I’m trying to say is I’ve never experienced Tomodachi Life, but I’ve heard many great things (and seen many hilarious video clips). I’m definitely going to have to join the hype and pick up this game next year to see what the fuss is about!

This isn’t even all that was announced at the Direct! I can’t wait to see all the reactions to the games announced.
