As I mentioned in a recent post, Animal Crossing is back for me in a big way since the new update. I’ve been really enjoying going back to my original island from 2020 and swapping out some villagers and redecorating the place. I can see why I got so addicted in the first place!
I have talked about my love for an earlier instalment of Animal Crossing, Wild World on the Nintendo DS, on both this blog and on my TikTok. I adored Wild World as a kid, and although my town didn’t look the best, I had a fully decked out house and villagers that I loved! In today’s post, I want to talk about some of my favourite villagers that I either fell in love with during my childhood or more recently in New Horizons. I have so many favourites from then and now, it was hard to narrow it down for this list!
Mint

Back in 2008-ish, I was addicted to Wild World, a game that feels very primitive when you go back to it after New Leaf or New Horizons. One thing about Wild World is that you got no choice as to who moved into your town, and you weren’t warned when they wanted to move away. You just had to check on them every day.
As an 8 year old, I felt extremely lucky when Mint moved in just downtown from my house. I loved her cute look and girly, yet mature way of talking to the player. I am one of those people who preferred how villagers talked in the older games, purely because it felt less stale after long play sessions. She felt like who I wanted to be when I grew up, and I loved brightly coloured villagers! I was gutted when she moved away after I checked in on the game months later.
Aurora

I had Aurora very briefly in my Wild World town, but she has always been a favourite for me. I think she deserves more hype, as do all of the penguins! I may be biased though; penguins have been my favourite animal since I was very young. They were most likely my first special interest!
Aurora looks just like a fluffy Emperor penguin chick, and her Normal personality just makes her so warm and approachable. I love her beady black eyes and her knitted jumpers. Super cute!
Tangy

I think I was obsessed with Tangy when I was a kid because I loved the music that played in her house, Senor K.K. It would get stuck in my head for days! I also am a lover of the peppy personality, and I actually think it’s even better in New Horizons; it feels like it has more depth than in Wild World, where they felt Snooty but just slightly different.
The food themed villagers are really fun to me; brightly coloured, shouldn’t really exist but somehow just make sense. Who would think to make an orange into a cat? I really want to get Tangy on my island; I don’t think I’ve seen her since the Wild World days!
Chief

I’m not usually a big fan of the Cranky villagers, but I really like Chief. I like how they’ve altered the wolf villager design to make him look more fox-like, and I also like that they have no idea what to do with his house.
Chief lived in my Wild World town for a good while, and his home looked like a factory with robotics everywhere; it didn’t really match his appearance at all. They toned it down a bit in New Leaf, but in the New Horizons era his house now appears to be that of a struggling street artist or a car boot sale. I love Chief, not only because his design is cute but also because he appears to be having a career change or identity crisis.
Stitches

Stitches is a popular choice for favourite villager, but he truly has been my favourite since I was a little kid. He’s still in my Wild World town, and a friend of mine kindly snapped him up for me when they came across him on a mystery island. As someone who loves to dress in bright colours, I feel like Stitches speaks to my soul! I wish I could be a multi-coloured teddy bear, running around a pastel coloured island all day!
I love the theming of Stitches, from his look to his home looking like the toybox he lives in. I had so much fun designing the area outside of his home in New Horizons because there’s so much to work with!
It was super hard to narrow the villagers down! There are so many that I love that I’ve left out; I’ll have to find another way to show them the love they deserve!
