I’ve talked many times on this blog about how I struggle to branch out and try new game genres, so I thought this new format could hold me accountable! I want to look back at this month at some of the games I’ve played and whether I enjoyed them or not. If I make this a monthly format, I’ll be forced to work through my huge backlog!

Of course, with Deltarune chapter 5 releasing in late June, I had to go back and play all the chapters back to back in July. Every time a new chapter releases, I love going back to the world of Deltarune and trying to figure out its little mysteries with the newly added context. The fans may have gotten carried away with fan theories and their wants for the game, but I really enjoyed going back and playing the older chapters alongside the newest release. And of course, trying my hand at the newest secret boss! My weeb heart was so excited to hear Hatsune Miku on the soundtrack. It took plenty of attempts, but I won in the end! I’m tempted to give it another go now that you can crank up the difficulty. I’m still not good at collecting all those pink coins though!

As I’ve been working through some things with my health and wellbeing in July, I turned back to one of my biggest comfort games, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Animal Crossing franchise is definitely the face of cosy games for a reason; the summer months in the game are so relaxing, with the beating sun on the island and lush green grass. I swapped some of my villagers around and managed to bag Sasha and Bangle, two of my favourite villagers ever! I’m still on the hunt for Merry though, my biggest dream villager that I’ve yet to acquire. One day!

I’ve not just spent this month going back to tried and true favourites of mine. I decided to branch out and try my hand at something new! This may be a surprise, but I’ve never played a mainline Pokemon game. I played the iconic Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team as a kid, and collected Pokemon cards, but I didn’t have a mainline game. Recently, I downloaded Pokemon Pearl onto my DS after being told it was the best generation in the franchise. I may have to also download Platinum, but I’ve really liked going back to the charming feel of a DS game. I’m also hoping to give the Switch version a try!
